I have a 8 month old dog that's a real jumper. I've been working on getting him comfortable with small jumps, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips, or good web sites to check out for more information. Thanks a lot
Dog agility training issues?
With my jumps at home she does them really fast, but at the class she doesn't go past a jog. She does them still, her tail is wagging so she enjoys herself but she just doesn't want to go fast. another issue is at home she love the soccer ball she is obsessed with it, but at the class she doesn't want to play with it, and at home it really helps me speed her up, and it provides a good reward for her. So any ideas on what I should do, she has been at 10 sessions all an hour long, so she is pretty used to the surroundings. Thanks for the help.
Terrier dog + agility training?
My boyfriend and I have just adopted a terrier from wood green animal shelter. His name is flea and they think he is about 9 years old, although they're not completely sure. Although he is 9ish now he's still very lively and acts like a puppy at times. He needs lots of boredom busters to keep him occupied and keep his brain challenged. I have a king kong for when I leave the house so he won't attack everything but I was wondering about agility training. He has a slight gait problem like most terriers that the vet is not worried about so I don't feel like it will cause him a problem. Would a dog of his age size be able to do agility training?Also because of the circumstances he was removed from he is not used to being with other dogs, he is very friendly and only wants to play with other dogs but doesn't understand the jumping and barking at them isn't going to make me let him play with them. I am using a gentle leader and a halti on walks with him and reward him when he walks calmly.I was thinking of taking him to puppy socialising classes at my local vets, I know technically he isn't a puppy, but would it be deemed dangerous as he has been known to get a bit over excited and accidentally nip dogs in the past.Any advice on either areas would be great. Flea i179.photobucket.com albums w290 faultybarbiedoll fle.jpgI'm still not sure about the socializing classes, the shelter said he needs to be socialized with other dogs so he learns to be respectful of them as well as me. I can control him perfectly well, but it's going to take a while to get it down to a fine art because of his past. I guess I just want to follow what the shelter says and give him a better life than his previous owners. The other option is to take him to the dog walking areas but I'm not keen on these after to what happened to my last dog here. Would either of these two be acceptable for socializing him?
Dog agility training question: "Sending the dog through"?
I'm not sure how to " send my dog through" the course with me handling from a distance. Any help with training tips?Also, is there a good site that tells you how to train different agility skills and obstacles? If so I'd love to get the link to it, thanks Thanks for trying, but I'm new to agility and haven't enrolled in any classes.I've taught my dog all of the obstacles and front and rear crosses. I've been handling right next to her, but as i've watched others compete, they send their dogs through. I was wondering if there was a specific way that you are supposed to teach a dog to be sent through part of the course.
Help with Dog Agility Training?!?!?!?!?
I have got myself a job yaaaaaaay at a dog training centre, I will be helping out with beginner dogs and in the e mail the owner of the centre says I will need to help dogs get a " good weave entry" ......... problem is I do not know how to do this She said I can spend a few hours watching classses to get the idea of how to do it, but I wanted some information and help beforehand. Can someone please give me advice on how to train dogs to weave? Any informative websites will be appreciated Thing is I won't know any of these dogs, other people bring them in.I am not teaching the dogs all on my own, i am just an assistant,
Dog agility training?
i know that there is already a forum which lists agility clubs but i was wondering do any of you know any short 4 week programs which do agility?im in the mill park area so anything you guys know of i would love to see im desperate so please anytthingthanks for your help in advancehaha yea silly me lol any agility places in melbourne that anybody knows of would be great well i know a 4 week course is very short but its my only option at the moment he already nkows how to do it i juts need to get him more confident. you can see him here youtube.com user mollybrandybillly
