Essential dog care questions?
henry how often clip nails can I do it myself? I figured out the bathing about 1x per month for husky Is their body lanuage some way of him signalling to me that he has to urinate defecate so he doesn't go in the house?I'm aware consistent same time each day eating patterns are important for health as well as so my dog doesnt' urinate defecate in the house. WHEN are the best times for his two meals? I was doing around 9pm 9am. is that good? What's the purpose of crate training and using a crate? Is it so your dog being a den animal won't urinate defecate in the crate As well as not chew on furniture? I thought it was just the latter, but realized it might have to do with the former, too.Also, where's the " appropriate" place for a dog to pee and poo? Thanks.
Shepard Mix dog care?
I recently attained a shepard mix, 1 year old Approximately , female. She is absolutely freaked out by any sudden movement, and is not house broken. She seems to calm down at times, however. How do you " house break" a dog of this age?
Couple questions about dog care in arid climes?
This will be my first fall and winter in the Arizona desert with Mindy, my German Shepherd dog puppy nearly 15 months and I am hoping for some advice on skin and paw care.Though I am quite sure, she has no fleas or ticks she has been Frontlined, monthly Mindy still continues to often scratch the area around her neck. She has a good quality diet Kirkland Lamb & Rice and I add two large fish oil capsules to her diet, daily. What might we do to help Mindy find relief for her itching? Is there some kind of treatment I could rub her down comb into her fur with?The other question I had was about her paws. When we go for our morning games at the ball field, that is irrigated at night, her paws are, of course, nice and moist. But, as I check them at other times, there is some minor cracking I see, mainly in the heel portion of her paws. Is this a reason for concern? We do some serious hiking, over rocky terrain, for evening workouts and I am just wanting to take whatever precautions or preventative measure I can to assure Mindy stays in tip top shape and of course, avoid unnecessary vet visits I appreciate your help Walt
How much $$ should the employee of a dog care company receive?
I just started working as a pet sitter dog walker for a pet care company and I am paid 45 50 % of the total charge of each sit walk. I have heard that 70 80 % is the norm. Am I getting ripped off?Well, duh, Bonnie. That's why I'm trying to find out if I should be getting paid more so I can decide to quit or not.

How much do you spend on dog care a year?
I read online that people say 1,000 2,000. But that seems over the top. I have a dog and I spend $30.00 every other month for food. Tick and heart worm stuff is $50.00 every three months. Treats are $10 a month. Shampoo is $10 dollars every four months. Vet stuff is $20.00 every three months. And grooming is about $60.00 every four months. There are a lot of one time purchases I have made too such as brush, toys, bed, crate, etc etc that I won't have to buy again. Have I missed some important dog care expenses?

Can my dog care for a litter of abandoned kittens?
Okay, my dog had her pups 1 and half weeks ago. My cat had kittens yesterday Wednesday . My cat hasn't cared for the kitties so far. I would like to know if the kittens can be put with my puppies or should they nurse seperately?My momma dog was cleaning them and laying for them to nurse.Is this safe? Can the kitties still get nutrition?My momma cat would leave them in the box and would have nothing to do with them.. Suddenly she grabbed them and carried them to an abandoned doghouse in my yard filled with hay .Can someone give me advice on what to do?Thanks so much thank you for all the good advice, guys.But the cat killed the kittens last night.
Suggestion for a good dog care book?
I want to give someone a book on dog care and training as a gift. They just got a new puppy, and need a reference to push them in the right direction. They are already signed up for puppy classes, but I think a book is still a good idea.I am an advocate of raw grain free diets, positive reinforcement, and holistic care approaches. I would not feel comfortable giving a book that says " any aafco food is good" or " just ask your vet." The people receiving this book are educated adults and deserve a book that is going to explain dog care in more detail, giving them solid information and a springboard for further learning. Any suggestions?
Does a dog care whether his food is warm or cold?
I have a dog and I place his canned food in the fridge. When I was about to feed him, my mother told me that I was evil because I didn't warm it up. Is she right? lol
Are you really this hysterical about absolute perfection is dog care?
I am really surprised by the degree of emotional responses to non dire situations posted here. Lots of answers act as if the owner is evil and abusive for what I feel are minor lapses in judgment that simply need a friendly correction. Why are so many on here so quick to over react? I understand that lots of situations need stern corrections, do not get me wrong. I am just asking about relatively benign things. EX. In one question someone said her neighbor has not taken a puppy to the vet yet for preventative care immediately puppy appears healthy and uses a pinch collar for training while outside. At least 8 people wrote things like, call the police or animal control REALLY? No other section that I answer in is this dramatic. Can someone clue me in on the mentality behind it? I am fascinated.
