Get a book on the JRT. It will tell you all the basic stuff, and some things that are unique to the JRT |

I just got a puppy a couple months ago. In addition to that you will need a crate for it to sleep in and lots and lots of chew toys. Puppies will chew anything so you wanna make sure they have lots of toys to keep them busy. |

You can always go to Petsmart, PetCo, or even your local library to read up on books and even books essentially focused on the Jack Russell breed on how to care for them. Mostly all of your questions will be coming out of those books, and those books have better advice than anything you'll probably find on here and on the internet. There's nothing wrong with researching on the internet either, there's plenty of websites out there to help you, but most books tailored to specific breeds are the ones you'll be getting the most benefit out of. One thing of advice, however, is this: do you have the time and commitment for having a dog? Depending on the type of breed, some dogs have high energy to them, requiring lots of play and possibly taking them out to the park every now and then to spend their energy. Before anything, be sure that you're ready for a commitment to taking care of an animal in your home. Lots of people *think* they're ready, but turn out that they're not either due to the fact that they're just too busy with life or that they aren't educated on their dog breed that they got. So read up and be sure that you're ready for it! |

Go and get a good book on how to care for your new puppy at most pet stores. It will tell you what you need. Also when you get your puppy take him/ her to your vet and have him/ her looked at. Have fun. |

Jack Russells are little different to any other dog breed or wolves. Make time to exercise him/ her for at least a few hours a day including a walk outside of at least an hour (yes that long). Just show the pup some love, understanding and time and you'll be an expert model dog owner! |

Before you get a dog, you should make sure that you know what you are getting into. You will need < - premium food, and no not just purina or something like that (get Blue, Origin, Solid gold, Halo, Eagle pack, Avoderm, Wellness..) Make sure what ever you get is formulated for puppies. -A vet - A good multivitamin for puppies. -Weewee pads -Collar -Leash -tags (and a license) -Toys - A bigish crate -Shampoo -Flea meds -tooth brush/ paste -Grooming supplies -bed -Food/ water bowls -Organic treats Im sure im missing some things.... Just remember that getting a dog is like having a kid, tons of responsibility. |

Taking a new puppy into the home can be very stressing the first few weeks. I am guessing you have never had a puppy before(which is fine). Well, you new dog will definitely always need a water bowl down and you will need to make sure he/ she is feed every day. You can have a food bowl down all day, or you can do a thing called controlled feeding. That is when you only feed him/ her a couple of times a day, which every you prefer. Dogs don't always have to have a dog bed, if you allow them on you bed, couch, etc. But if you don't you would probably have a dog bed for him/ her, just to keep the pup comfortable. Another very important thing to have on hand it peroxide. If you dog every eats anything dangerous, you can give him/ her a cap-full( on the bottle it will have a little white cap) and in a few minutes they will throw up, which would get the bad thing out off their system. You also should always have the local vet's number and addressee on hand along with the emergency vet's number and addressee on hand. You will probably need a crate or pen to put your pup in when you are out. I prefer a crate with a blanket and water bowl in it. It just helps keep the dog out of trouble. Those are all of the essentials that you will need before getting the puppy. But when you go to your vet for pup's first check up(which i recommend doing not to long after getting the puppy)you should ask your vet more about it. And one more thing,TOYS! Jack Russell's are very hyper. I hope this helps.Good luck with your new puppy! |

What ever you do feed your dog good food innova is great for small dogs that is what I feed mine, but it is expensive $35 for a big bag and not sold at major pet stores. Other great brands (sold at major pet stores) include Canidae, Solid Gold. What ever you do. please do not use mass produced such as... these are just some examples, there are more terrible dog foods out there. there is a lot of info on the web about different dog foods. although my vet told me to use good food I didn't believe it until I read up on it my self. ONe website is thedogbowl.com has a little bit of info.thats just one site. research on your own. Remember to always read the first five ingredients. they should not contain any by product or corn and should have a minimum 2 (prefer 3) proteins and a wheat or barley. Everything I've learned has been through the internet, the information is not difficult to understand at ALL do not feed these to your dogs, this is an outdated chart so, new cheap bad food like the new nature one or rachel rays are not here. feeding your dog these is like feeding a child fastfood for every meal. UNHEALTHY and more costly in the long run. Nestle Alpo, Fancy Feast, Friskies, Mighty Dog, Purina One Heinz 9 Lives, Amore, Gravy Train, Kibbles-n-Bits, Nature's Recipe Colgate-Palmolive Hill's Science Diet Proctor & Gamble Eukanuba, Iams Mars Kal Kan, Mealtime, Pedigree, Sheba, Waltham's |
