What are the basics for dog obedience training?
Indi is now 6 months old and she knows how to sit, stay, shake and lay down. I've realized that I should start doing basic obedience training with her but I'm not sure how to go about it. I want to teach her to walk beside me and to pay attention to me while doing so, without constantly focusing on my hand.. she sometimes jumps up. I want to enter into canine freestyle a little later, and am having trouble teaching her new tricks. She just does not pay attention for very long. I know she's a puppy, she just doesn't seem interested sometimes.So, how should I go about basic obedience training? Should I start it with her on a leash? Where would be best to do it?

please, only people that have been in it please. ive always imagined it like that scene in the first harry potter movie where their teaching them to ride their brooms and their all tryin to pick up their brooms lol so wat is it like?

Its been difficult trying to train my dog for the past few months and I find myself having less time to spend with her right now but that is only temporary. However, I would like to send her off to a dog school where she can spend a couple of weeks learning how to be obedient and great dog. I used to spend a great amount of time working diligent with her by reading books, watching the dog whisperer and other dog training videos and they only seemed to work a handful of times. Please let me know if you have any personal experience with sending your dog off to a training school in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA and getting great results Thanks
Is dog obedience training worth the money?
I found a dog obedience class beginner that is 6 weeks long meets 1 hr a week and costs $150. This seems to be the average price. I want to know if others have been pleased with the outcome of their dog going through this?

is it possible to teach a dog to sit, down, and stay in two hours. Theres a reputable k9 trainer that used to train K9s for Airforce in my area. He claims he can train any dog in 2 hours, if this is possible Im gonna get him.
What's the best way for dog obedience training?
It seems like the positive training methods only get you so far. It's a great method to communicate with the dog have him think and problem solve. But in presence of distractions and other temptations, it doesn't necessarily instill reliable obedience.Please suggest methods, advice, books or courses. Thanks

My dog seems very clear that it isn't the Alpha in our household but whenever I walk her she always tries to lead. How can I get her to listen. She's a 1 year old Norwegian Elkhound, if that helps.
Giving dog obedience training as a gift?
Is that rude? Do you think someone would take it the wrong way?I know some people are super sensitive about their dogs so I dont know how someone would handle it? Any advice?I do have a personal interest in this dog though. I've been asked and agreed to dogsit 3 times. This dog is the most misbehaved dog I've ever met. He bites me when I try to put a leash on him, and refuses to go outside with me sometimes which means I have to clean up his mess. He was a rescue and was abused. However, the owner now spoils the CRAPPPPPP out of him which makes him really difficult to handle

where do i look for a dog obedience class? are there good ones and bad ones? what should i look for when i pick one? are they expensive? how old does your dog have to be to begin? are certain breeds of dogs more successful then others when going through these classes? what do i need to know before i begin this process?any advice or opinions appreciated..i just got a 6 month old pure bred german shepard saturday. im having a hard time with her.
Dog obedience training, any ideas how much it is?
i'm looking into having my dog trained in obedience. he's an extremely intelligent border collie, 2 years old, but he's like a stroppy teenager, if i tell him off for stealing a baby toy that he knows he's not allowed to have then he'll throw himself to the floor like he's going to sleep he also has days where he decides he's not in the mood to listen to me so will do something naughty, if i tell him no, i almost never shout at him and never smack him he'll do it again as soon as my back is turned.so you can probably tell, he doesn't need all the training like sit, stay, come here and all that, just needs to learn off limits areas and off limits things. i'd like to think one day i can come home and find he hasn't 'pinched' anything.so does anyone have any experience in having a dog trained? stories? and how much is it roughly?ps, i did check with other collie owners, he's getting enough exercise
