Dog Tricks! Shake, Crawl, Beg, Kiss, Roll Over, Bow, and more! If your dog can learn tricks, then she can learn obedience and good manners. Go ahead...have some fun and teach your dog a new trick! The best way to teach |

To teach a dog to bow start with your dog standing on her four legs: say 'Bow' and push gently on the forward part of her back (close to the neck) while holding a hand under her rear legs. The result will be that she will lower her head and front part while leaving standing her rear part - thus "bowing ". Always give plenty of praise and a treat when she accomplishes her trick. It is really important that you are able to get the attention of your dog when you need it: you'll be more effective when teaching her tricks and you'll also have a tool to "distract " your dog from doing things you don't want her to do. Start sitting or kneeling, in front of your dog Hide your hands (so she won't be distracted looking at them) and say 'Focus' (or say your dog's name): as soon as she looks at you in your eyes start praising her (always keep eye contact) and after a few seconds give her a treat. If she looks somewhere else, just call her again and start over. Try to lengthen the time while she's focused on you, but remember that after a few seconds (it depends, but if she stays focused for 10-15 seconds she's a really good dog!) you have to let her go... Just a few ideas there, have fun x |

I feel that the best way is to use a clicker and a bag of tiny 5mm treats. They are cheap to get and all you do is start by clicking and giving a treat for doing nothing. After a couple of days the dog will think of being rewarded every time they hear the click. Then you just watch your dog. If you see it sit - click and treat. It will get to the point where if the dog sees you looking at it, it will sit for a click and treat. Then you start to introduce the command "Sit ". Eventually you will say sit, the dog will sit and then you click and treat. Once the dog has learnt it, you can stop using the clicker and the treat and it should just sit when commanded and settle for a verbal acknowledgement. Then you can start on a new command. All i will say is that once learnt, you should never ever give the command unless you are going to enforce it. So if you say sit and the dog doesn't sit, you will have to walk over and put the dog in a sitting position calmly otherwise you will be undermining your authority. I have taught my pup sit, down, come on, leave, wait, etc etc using this method while watching the TV. |

It doesn't matter what size dog it is they all need to learn at least the basics like sit ,heal ,come, stay. Small dogs are just big dogs in small bodies. Reward is always the best way to train . I would suggest joining a dog trainning class dogs are never to old to learn. |
