I would like to know the basics about how to train a dog i will be getting soon.?
Im going to be receiving a puppy or a dog not sure since a family member will be giving me the dog or puppy from a friend, so since i will be a new mother for a dog or puppy i want to be the best. I want to know the regular basis about when should i take the dog to the vet, how many times a day the dog should be fed and how many times a day should i take the dog for a walk and just the basics on how to train and keep a dog healthy and happy....

Any suggestions on how to train a dog not to climb onto the table?
I adopted a dog from a shelter a few months ago. My vet thinks he is in between 6 months to 1 year old. He is a small terrier mix that has some bad behaviors. One of his bad behaviors in getting onto the kitchen table and helping himself to whatever food is there although he has plenty in his food dish. I took him to a dog obedience school that lasted for 7 weeks but all he learned from it was how to " sit" and " settle" . He is always jumping onto the table whenever we leave the room or I turn my back. When I catch him I usually tell him " no " and put him out into the fenced back yard for a little while. What else can I do to break this behavior? Also does anyone have any suggestions to keep him from chewing on furniture, my children's toys and electrical cords? He has plenty of his own toys and bones he could be chewing on instead.I bought him a kong toy, he was not interested in it. I make sure he gets a lot of exercise. I take him for 3 walks a day usually a mile, the local dog park every other day and the my back yard is huge so he has plenty of room to run. I try to wear him down the best I can by evening so that he will sleep. I thought about buying a crate though, I will look into it.I would probably only use a crate for when I am not home to watch him running to the store and can't bring him with me. I don't want to leave him in the back yard unsupervised, and the garage is not all that safe in my opinion. The last time I left him alone in the house 15 minutes maybe I came back to a broken chair and my couch had a huge rip in it. He does know which toys are his. He even has his own toy box and when he gets playful I ask him where his toy is and he will actually go and get one. He is a smart dog I just don't know how to get passed some of these other issues.

How to train a dog not to chase cats?
I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. One of the dogs is very good around cats at least when the other dog isn't there but the other one turns into a cat chasing maniac as soon as she sees one. She's an Australian Shepard, which is a herding dog.I really need to train my dogs not to chase the cats. Right now, the upstairs area is a dog free zone. But I'm moving in about a month and a half, and the steps are too wide to fit a babygate. There's a nice basement, but there'll be lots of construction happening there as soon as we move in which will take about a month , so I really don't know what to do. I need to train the dogs to stop chasing cats. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How to train a dog to pee outside.?

How to train a dog to not attack skateboards?
Ok I have a 4 year old male staffordshire terrier. He is a very sweet, loving and playful dog. I have 4 kids and lots of friends and family that are around him all the time and he has never showed signs of aggression or vicious behavior. He really is a great dog. HOwever, skateboards turn him into a totally different dog. He hates them, he hates the sound they make and I dont know how to get him out of this. When I walk him or have him in the yard, if someone passes by on a skateboard I have to quickly bring him inside because it drives him crazy. I tried to bring a skateboard into the house to work with him myself, but he just goes after it, and bites it and just goes nuts. We are moving in a few weeks to a new neighborhood that is loaded with kids and tons of activity around the new house such as skates, rollerblades, bicycles and skateboards. I'm very nervous about this because if he should accidentally get out or if I'm walking him and he goes after a skateboard and I cant control him, I dont know what will happen. I dont want my new neighbors to think I have an aggressive, mean dog because he's not. But skateboards really drive him crazy and I dont know what to do about it. Can anyone help give me some advice or pointers on what I can try?? Thanks.

How to train a dog to be aggressive, yet cuddly.?
Ok so im getting a puppy husky and i want to train it to be nice to people i like, but also to be aggressive and like a guard dog on risky situations like when im not home or at a dog park with other dogs where fighting is probable . How to train a dog to behave off of a leash safely?
To start off.. If you have something regarding how unsafe, irresponsible, or stupid it would be to let my dog off of his leash to say.. Just leave now and keep your opinions to yourself. Yahoo Answers is to educate, or at least my questions I am looking get educational answers from. I don't need your hippie animal activist crap thrown in my face. Thank you. Sorry if I am being too forward. I have an 8 month old lab boxer mix who I am convinced is the best dog in the whole world. He is great on the leash, in the car, in the house, at the park, and in the yard. He is a little bit skittish at Petco and just tries to hide.. But I think it is because of all the animals. But we are working on it. I have read articles on how if you keep dogs confined and held back too often, when the get off their leash or out of the house they will run off.. So I let him come out side with me to take out the trash, I let him have a little freedom at the park, I let him run around a little without a leash whenever we go to someones house.. I am so paranoid though.. I sit there and watch his every move and end up calling him to me after about 30 seconds. I want him to be one of those dogs that doesn't need a leash at the park and will just play catch.. And I can let him come with me just about anywhere and not have to worry about anything. How can I achieve this? I'm scared I baby him too much... I am always praising him and telling him how good he is. Even when he is just laying on the couch I'll go lay by him and tell him what a good dog he is and give him treats. Is this bad? I want him to be loved, but I don't want to degrade praise.Yeah we have a fenced yard he goes out in.. But he doesn't like to be back there unless we are with him.. He would much rather be in the house with us.

How to train a dog not to bite if someone takes its toy?
I am getting a dog this summer Pomeranian They are known for being possessive over toys and such as growling or nipping if someone took the toy. So does anyone know how to train the dog not to growl or bite? or how to teach it not to possess over things? i would have to give it a toy if it whined from its crate but wouldn't that make it become possessive? Thanks
