Start restricting her to one room at night or if no one is watching her. When you wake up in the morning take her outside and allow her to do her business. Let her know that you are displeased when she does it inside. Praise her when she does it outside. Use a word to associate doing her business outside. With my dog i use the word "hurry up ". I'll say, 'let's go hurry up. " Then as soon as she does it I’d say 'good hurry up Chloe' in a tone to let her know that i am happy. The reason you give it a name is because when it's cold outside and you don't want the dog to take forever you use the work and she knows that she has to do it and go back inside. Use it every day even after she understands what you mean. You have to be consistent with taking her out. Believe me, you may not smell it because you are use to it but your house stinks. If you are home take her outside 3 times a day. Remove food and drink after she finish eating. Do not fee her all day. The more you feed her the more she will have to go. Be consistent and it will not take more than two weeks. You will learn to recognize when she needs to go out. She will let you know. Remember that not all dogs bark when they need to go out. Some will go by the door, some will whine and others will show you with a movement of the head. My dog will turn her head in a certain way and if i ignore her she follows every step that i make, literally. If i don't take her out, i will end up stepping on her. she only weights 9 pounds. She is almost three and i can let her lose all day. She will know to wait. She will only bark when she needs to go out if i made her wait too long. She is such a great dog; she allows me to oversleep at time. She will patiently wait on her bed. |

Hi Girl, WOW, No potty training when she was young!!! Jeez!!! It's going to be hard work now since she is 5 years old..Why didn't someone in your family potty train her(there's always time to do this)..You may think it's pretty annoying, but it's not really her fault is it!!! A lot of time and hard work(without yelling or spanking her)..I have a 2 month old puppy and I already have him potty trained.. Being young is so much easier to potty train a dog.. Your Friend, poppy1 |
