The grass outside and maybe then use the nappies to pick it up

You take the dog OUTSIDE to potty. newspaper and pee-pads just confuse the poor dog and teach it that its ok to piss in the house.

You can use paper, but sometimes it leaks.

You take it outside. if you use puppy training pads or newspaper you are just giving yourself twice as much work to do. why, well you train the puppy to wee and poo in the house, then you have to train it to go outside, which will just confuse it as it would normally think its ok to wee and poo in the house when it isnt

During the winter months, they seem like a good idea - but rest-assured, they're not. They're convenient if you have a small breed puppy or aren't able to supervise the puppy too well (which we all know that puppies should be supervised at all possible moments...) Anyways, it confuses the puppy and teaches them that they always have a spot to go in the house. Believe me, you don't want to start this routine. What I would do is utilize crate training. Take the puppy outside first thing in the morning, yes - before you get coffee/ shower/ etc. Try doing it before each meal and after each meal. Praise you puppy for going potty outside. When you're unable to keep a close eye on your puppy, kennel it in a room where you might be for awhile and where the puppy can see you. Use a calm and soothing voice with crate training. It'll let the puppy know that their kennel is a safe place, a place of their own. Most importantly, be strict about the outside only potty training. You'll have a happy dog, a well trained dog and most important - a dog that isn't confused about going potty in the house.

Puppy nappies and pads are a total waste of money. Newspapers maybe, if the pup has been used to going on newspaper, but only by the backdoor, for the odd mistake and to begin with. Puppies should be trained to go outside, from day one!! If you allow a puppy to do his biz. indoors, you will only confuse him, and end up training twice! Get him outside. After every nap, every meal, short periods of play, throughout the day. Every hour to begin with. Yes, it's a lot of work, but unless you want a puppy who feels it's okay to do everything indoors, this needs to be done.

Sounds crazy butafter catching my dog as a young pup using the cats litter tray i bought him one and put newspaper in side, obviously you carry on toilet training taking them outside but it worked when the pup was desperate and what i did was moved it nearer and nearer the back door
