Litter box training a dog to use the same box as the cat?
I think I want to train my puppy, who is currently paper trained, to go in a litter box instead. Is it possible to have a dog and a cat use the same litter box? Or will one get confused by the other's pee poo smell?The reason I want her to use the litterbox is because she is a 4 month old puppy and some days I am out at class work and unable to walk her in the middle of the day. Weewee pads cost a lot of money, and since I already have a cat using a box, I'd rather her just use that.Plenty of dogs are trained to use litterboxes. The dog is being trained to go outside as well, she is starting to get the hang of that actually, I just need to use this as an alternative plan during the day maybe 2x per week. My family members who live close by are busy during the day as well with work, otherwise I would've asked them.Cleaning and disinfecting the box is no problem, I already do that each week with the cat, I'm just afraid that maybe the cat will use the dog's box and that will repel the dog or something. The tip about the dog eating the cat's poo is a good point though, I hadn't thought about that. Has anyone ever trained a dog for use with kids with autism?
We are looking at getting a dog. It would be great to be able to teach the dog to look out for my daughter with autism and other kids too. My daughter has no fear of water and is actually attracted to it. She has no sense of danger, and can be oblivious to the world around her sometimes. Will eat plants and non edible things etc. Wondering if we could train our dog to help be another pair of eyes just in case. What traits would you look for in a dog, and how would you go about training it? If I were to train it myself where would I learn what to do? Or would I need a special puppy school? My dog is a 3 and a half year old chocolate lab and he needs help learning how to not be aggressive when he sees other male dogs. When he went to the dog park he almost got in a fight with another dog while on a leash and was called a 'beast'. He is a sweet dog but something snaps inside him when he sees another male dog. She's a nine month old chihuahua and I've tried potty training her. If I bring her in the house, which she hates, she immediately poops on the floor. I show her the mess and put her outside, but that's where she wanted to be in the first place so she doesn't care.
