How do I start house training a puppy?
Leash training a puppy..experts?
My Golden Retreiver puppy is 3.5 months old. I've been working with him on walking on a leash, but as soon as he sees the other end of the leash in my hand, he lays down and won't budge. When he is scolded for something bad, like pottying in the house for example, he lays down and puts his head in between his paws, like he knows he guilty. This is also what he does when I tug on the leash. I don't want him to think he's in trouble when I'm trying to lightly lead him in the right direction. Today, he made the most progress so far, and I am so proud I used a few treats to encourage him and he was right along side me. What I'm worried about is when the time comes that I need to give a little tug on the leash to lead him back to me or in another direction, he'll plop right down and refuse to move. I want him to understand I'm leading our walk, and that walks are fun not that he's in trouble because I tugged him a little. What do I do to stop this?

Crate training a puppy?
I am getting a puppy and plan to crate train it for during the day when we're out of the house and at night . I am confused by something that I've read though. I have read that we are supposed to keep the crate in a high traffic area, so that when the puppy is in there, it feels connected to the family.... so I am thinking that we'll put it in the kitchen. i don't think that she'll be in there much when we're home, but it is convenient for letting her out in the yard when we come home, etc. But I have also read that the crate should be beside our bed at night for sleeping... so do people move the crate around... downstairs during the day and upstairs in the bedroom at night ??
What's the best way to crate-train a puppy?!?
We have a 3 1 2 month old beagle shar pei mix. We are having the hardest time crate training him, especially at night. We've tried absolutely everything we can think of, and all the suggestions from our vet and trainer. He will whine relentlessly until we let him out of his crate. We've even tried letting him tire himself, but he whined for over 2 1 2 hours. He bangs on the crate, also. We try to ignore him, or sometimes comfort him, or give him food inside the crate, something soft to cuddle with, and something sturdy to chew on. He ignores ALL of it. The crate is the right size he has just enough room to turn around and stand up comfortably. HELP we are losing sleep
Tips for train a puppy to get along with cats?
First of all, I have 2 male fixed egyptian maus, and a male fixed dachshund. The cats and dog I already have get along pretty well with. They often sleep beside each other and such. I am worried about my current animals being terrorized by the puppy, and really need some tips on how to introduce them and keep the environment calm for everyone. I am planning to get a Standard or Miniature Alaskan Klee Kai in a year or so. Before you get all get on my back, I do have sufficient time and space for this dog as I know training and exercise will be very important. Anyways, what I am really looking for is 1. Based on my circumstance, what will be some good tips to introduce my animals and help them get along?2. Would you recommend a minature or standard Klee Kai? I am leaning towards the standard, but I would love to hear others opinions. 3. Would you not recommend this dog at all for me and why? This is the only thing I am worried about, as I have bred dachshunds before and know how to socialize, obedience train, leash train, potty train, etc.
If I am willing to take 3 weeks off work to train a puppy, will this be long enough to get a routine in place?
We both work full time and are just about to complete on our own house and desperately want a puppy to complete our family for the time being we plan to have children in about 3 years . I have grown up having a family dog and know what is involved but my mum always worked from home giving the dog company so this will be different. We have looked into dogs that will be good with children for when we decide to have children but are concerned about leaving it on its own all day until the day comes when I am on maternity likely to be a few years away . I want to take 3 weeks off work to get the puppy settled in and try to build a routine...is this long enough to get the basics covered? Will getting a dog flap help, so they can go into the garden when they want to? After I go back to work I think my father in law will be in the house a lot fixing it up for us, so it will have company at first. I am torn as I feel like the house is empty without a dog as I have always had one but think it is a little unfair on the dog?
How long does it take to potty train a puppy?
I have a 11 month old Bichon Frise and I just barely started potty training him, how long would it take till he learns to go outside??
How do I train a puppy to take walks?
She's about six months old, a small maltese poodle mix. Whenever I put her harness on her she never wants to walk with it. I practically drag her around. Now while everyone thinks this is really cute the dog even wags her tail sometimes I would really like to get her to walk with me. Is there a nice training video or any suggestions for this? Thank you.
Should I crate train a puppy that will eventually live outside?
My husband and I have just found a border collie x blue heeler puppy and she will be ready to pick up in a couple of weeks. We have chosen this breed as they are fairly energetic and will be able to keep up with our two year old Siberian Husky.Jasper husky spends time inside however he sleeps outside. I know that I have to keep the two of them seperated for the majority of the time so the pup will bond with us and not see Jasper as its " master" .I was thinking crate training is the best option however seeing the pup will eventually move to sleeping outside do you think this is the best option?

After you train a puppy to "go" in one area, can I--the now dog-- train them to "go" somewhere else?
So when my three puppies were puppies, we put the puppy training pads down in our formal dining room since we didn't use it. Now we have to use that room and eating beside those are disgusting. Can I replace the pads to my room and train them to go in there or is it too late for that? Thanks
